People in the Media are Strange

A few minutes ago, the popular TV game show, Jeopardy, was interrupted by the local news. A tanker truck exploded on the freeway, and was on fire. it was reported from the scene.

First of all, I was pissed off because Jeopardy was interrupted, but my first concern was the driver of the truck. Is he OK? That’s all I wanted to know. The lady who reported the incident would not comment about the condition of the driver. She went on talking and talking and saying nothing. This went on for about 20 minutes. Finally, before returning viewers to the regularly scheduled broadcast, the reported said, “Oh, by the way, the driver was not injured.”

My first thought was, “Why didn’t you say this at the beginning of the broadcast? That’s all your viewers care about.”

The answer is, to keep people on their station.
